A Dartmouth College sorority and 2 fraternity members are facing charges after the death of a student who drowned after an off-campus party over the summer.

Police announced Friday that the Dartmouth College sorority Alpha Phi has been charged with one count of facilitating an underage person with alcohol at a house party. Two of the Beta Alpha Omega members were similarly charged with providing alcohol to a person under 21 regarding the death of 20-year-old Won Jang.

Jang, a resident of Middletown, Delaware, and a member of Beta Alpha Omega at Dartmouth was reported missing in July after the party. State and local emergency responders later found his body in the Connecticut River.

The party, which was mostly attended by people under 21, was hosted by Alpha Phi Sorority, while Beta Alpha Omega provided the alcohol. Police said, towards the end of the party several attendees decided to swim in the river. Once they were in the river it began to storm and many people decided to leave. Jang, whose parents told authorities he could not swim, remained in the river.

Immediately after the incident, Dartmouth has suspended both the sorority and fraternity.
