The safety preparations for this year’s Boston Marathon are now public. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and other city leaders outlined the plans this afternoon at City Hall.

Investigators announced this morning that the fire at 298 Beacon Street in Boston that killed two firefighters last week was caused by welders working at the back of the building.

Fallen Boston firefighter Michael Kennedy was honored by his family, friends, and companions Thursday morning during a funeral service in West Roxbury. Kennedy was one of the two fallen heroes who died battling a 9-alarm fire in the city’s Back Bay area last week.

Mayor Marty Walsh wished the entire city of Boston a Happy St. Patrick’s Day, but not from the annual parade route. Walsh opted not to take part in the parade after talks between the mayor and parade organizers on allowing an LGBTQ friendly organization to march died.
