“Weeds” Star is Not Your Average Teenager
By Jordan Moncada — 09/16/2011
Alexander Gould is not your typical teen. The child star began acting when he was two years old. Gould’s mother majored in theater education in college and has been his acting coach throughout his career. Gould has worked on several films and television shows such as “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Freaks and Geeks,” and “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.”
Gould was ten years old when he landed his starring role on the Emmy Award-winning show “Weeds.” He had no idea what he was getting himself into when he walked into his audition. “When I was auditioning for “Weeds”…I had to say the F word. And I was 10 at the time. It was a big deal for me. I was a little kid. I didn’t want to say that,” said the “Weeds” star. The Showtime comedy is about a suburban mother turned marijuana dealer. Gould was reluctant to take the role because it was very provocative. But now he has changed his mind. “The one project I didn’t want was the one that turned out to be awesome.”
Gould isn’t just working on his acting career. He is finishing up his independent studies in which he takes classes alone and interacts with teachers and classmates through web and audio chat. Even on the production set, Gould finds time to study and do homework between breaks. In the fall, the young star is looking to apply to colleges to study psychology.
Gould hasn’t had an ordinary childhood. “I’ve definitely had a different social life than a lot of my friends. I’ve been in a completely separate world,” said Gould. “I was forced to grow up a lot faster but it’s been a really great experience. I love it.”
