Pagano Diagnosed with Leukemia
Indianapolis Colts Coach Chuck Pagano has been diagnosed with leukemia. The 52-year old was admitted to the hospital Wednesday and has begun chemotherapy.
He will undergo four to six months of treatment in attempt to cure his recent diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia. APL, or APML, is considered one of the more curable forms of leukemia with a high remission percentage. Colts owner Jim Irsay said the coach isn’t expected to return in a regular, full-time capacity this season.
An Indiana University Health release statement said most adults with the disease achieve remission. Even if Pagano does achieve remission, he could continue receiving therapy for up to two years. Coach Pagano requested that Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians be named interim coach. Indianapolis hosts Green Bay Sunday at 1 p.m. ET
