House Approves Bill to Help with Cancelled Insurance

Scrutiny of the troubled Affordable Care Act continues.
The U.S. House approved a GOP proposal for insurers to continue to offer healthcare plans. This applies to new and existing customers through next year. The proposal includes plans that do not meet the new federal requirements.
39 Democrats crossed party lines to support the measure, even though President Obama threatened to veto it. Most Democrats oppose the GOP legislation because it allows new customers to purchase insurance plans cancelled under the Affordable Care Act. They say this can undermine the intent of the ACA.
Republicans defend their legislation as the means to help people whose health care policies that have been canceled. About five percent of Americans have been affected.
