Mayor Walsh stresses the severity of the storm in the city in a press conference this afternoon. The city has already accumulated over two-feet of snow and is expected to grow until 1 a.m.
The blizzard is now being reported as the 8th largest snowfall in the city’s history.
Boston is still in the middle of the storm and the mayor urges residents to stay home for the rest of the day and Wednesday. The travel ban remains in effect in the city, though it has been lifted in western Massachusetts.
He asks that if you must go outside, pay attention to the streets. Several plow drivers have reported close calls with citizens on the streets.
Schools will be closed tomorrow, but Walsh says he is considering closing schools on Thursday as well, depending on how snow removal continues throughout the night.
No fatalities have been reported so far, but one resident was found in a car unresponsive and is being treated for carbon monoxide.
The coast guard has been evacuating several towns around Massachusetts due to coastal flooding, which will continue until 8 p.m.
