Simple and Chic Handmade Jewelry from an Up and Coming Designer
By: Emily Cristobal
A line of people gathered outside of Gansevoort Hotel in New York’s Meatpacking District to see the newest jewelry designs from Sakura, the founder and creative director of MIDORI LINEA.
The showcase gave a sneak peak of Sakura’s Fall 2020 LiVEOUTLOUD Collection. It also allowed people to buy pieces of the jewelry collection before they even hit the stores.
At the event, guests were offered a free beauty bar which included hair treatments, complimentary champagne, body painting by ART BASEL, and live mixes from DJ Cream and DJ Angelo the Kid. The first 20 guests also received a gift piece handmade by Sakura.
All of the jewelry displayed in this specific showcase was made by Sakura. However, because of the high demand of her products, most of the jewelry sold on her website is mainly mass-produced.
Sakura’s collection of jewelry combines metals as well as gemstones to create sophisticated yet casual hand chains, earrings, bracelets, foot chains, and necklaces.
When asked about how she started her jewelry business, Sakura explains that it came out of nowhere. She originally made the jewelry for herself, but after one store asked her to feature her jewelry designs, she decided to start taking wholesale orders.
Sakura believes that jewelry is an important aspect of fashion because it can really tie an outfit together. Furthermore, Sakura hopes to create jewelry that accentuates a woman’s figure.
