Joe Flacco completes NFL return, wins comeback player of the year

Joe Flacco was on the couch before the Cleveland Browns Dec. 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams. After starting for the QB-deprived Browns for five weeks, he was 4-1 with a QBR of 90.2 and a spot in the playoffs. Just over one month later, Flacco is on the NFL Honors stage in Las Vegas, receiving this prestigious award.

“Oh man…” Flacco said as he reminisced on the improbable journey he had just completed. “I just had so much fun out there enjoying every moment with my teammates. It’s a lot of fun to win football games.”

Since being traded from Baltimore in 2019, Flacco bounced around the league while simultaneously racking up injuries that held him back. Flacco continued slowly slipping off the face of the football earth until Cleveland – a division rival of his former Ravens – called.

“I was just so excited to sign,” Flacco said. “I was excited that they were the ones that gave me the opportunity; there was no animosity.”

While Flacco’s journey back to the NFL is the perfect way that some suggest he ride off into the sunset, he has other plans.

“There’s definitely a chance,” Flacco responded when asked if he may return to Cleveland next season. “I love it there.”
