The Legacy Pioneer Awards celebrates Black-owned businesses in Boston

By Nina Campanello
On Monday, Black leaders from all over Massachusetts were honored at the Legacy Pioneer
awards, which award those who have “broken down barriers, opened doors to economic
opportunities, championed inclusivity and driven positive change across the city and state for
minority owned and operated businesses.”
The Legacy Pioneer awards initiative is aligned with Black history month and is dedicated to
recognizing the achievements of influential Black business and economic development leaders.
The initiative is led by the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, Builders of Color
Coalition, Embrace Boston, Mill Cities Community Investments, New Commonwealth Fund and
The Partnership.
Over a dozen Black leaders, both alive and deceased, were awarded with the title “Champions of
Equity.” The event was MC’d by NBC’s Glenn Jones.
