The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) apologized to its customers after a North Station power outage halted service on the Green, Blue, and Orange lines on Thursday morning.

“We apologize for the inconvenience to the public’s travel plans this morning,” said MBTA General Manager Phil Eng. “I know how disruptive that was to them.”

Portions of the affected lines lost power around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday. According to WCVB, this outage impacted signals, stations, and public address systems. Additionally, trains were held on various platforms leading to significant delays.

Employees restored power on the Blue and Green lines around 9:30 a.m., and it was restored on the Orange line around 10:30 a.m.

As a gesture to its riders, the MBTA made subway fares free from 3-7 p.m. Thursday for the inconvenience.
