Communities across Eastern Massachusetts continue to push back against a new affordable housing law.

The MBTA Communities Act requires cities and towns served by the MBTA to update their zoning code to include more multifamily housing.

Voters in Milton rejected a plan on the ballot to update their zoning codes to be per the law. Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell sued the town of Milton early last week.

The Healey-Driscoll administration has denied requests from specific municipalities including Milton and Winthrop. Instead, state officials desire to work with local governments to ensure they are in accordance with the new law.
