Pleasant Cafe in Roslindale is celebrating the Academy Awards

Roslindale’s Pleasant Cafe, featured in the Oscar-nominated film “The Holdovers,” is excited for Sunday’s Academy Award ceremony.
The restaurant was picked for a series of scenes in the movie. As the film is set in the 1970s, Pleasant Cafe’s leather booths and wood paneling created the atmosphere filmmakers were looking for.
Owners Joanie and John Morgan told WCVB, “We came out of the movie theater so excited. It was in the movie for like three minutes. I don’t know. I felt like it really portrayed the Pleasant.”
The couple also met Paul Giamatti, who was nominated for his role in the film.
“The Holdovers,” directed by Alexander Payne, is set at a New England boarding school. The movie follows a grumpy teacher (Paul Giamatti), a student (Dominic Sessa), and a chef (Da’Vine Joy Randolph) as they stay on campus over the holiday break.
The film is nominated for five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and nominations for Giamatti and Randolph.
