Lexington police say child abduction did not take place

Lexington police investigating a reported child abduction no longer believe it took place in statements made Friday.

Police responded March 14 to a report of an attempted kidnapping on Wood Street. The report described “an elementary school aged child” who was “playing in their backyard when they were grabbed from behind and had a hand placed over their mouth.”

“We understand the concerns raised by this incident, and have concluded this was not an abduction attempt.” Officials said in a statement as reported by Boston.com Monday. “We want to assure the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community.”
