The Return of Bill Belichick?

In January, the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick mutually parted ways after 24 seasons together. Since then, the former head coach has shined in his new role as a media personality for the NFL.

As week three of the NFL season wraps up, head coaches are on the hot seat for poor decision-making and teams’ recent play, leading to believe the eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach is not far from putting the headset back on.

WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” had former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason as a guest on Monday. The once CBS analyst has three teams in mind that could go after Belichick.

Dallas Cowboys

“Mike McCarthy is a lame duck coach right now,” Esiason said on “The Greg Hill Show.” “He does not have a contract past this year. Very few coaches ever find themselves in that situation.”

McCarthy’s fifth season as the head coach of “America’s Team” is not off to a good start. The Cowboys started the year 1-2 with a blowout loss to the New Orleans Saints in the home opener and coming up short to the Baltimore Ravens. Their defense is a massive hole, tied for first in most TDs allowed and third in average points allowed.

Jerry Jones hasn’t raised the Lombardi trophy in almost thirty years, and Esiason thinks his patience is thin.“I definitely could see Jerry Jones going down that road next year,” he said.

Philadelphia Eagles

Head Coach Nick Sirianni’s aggressive playcalling almost cost his team against the Saints this past Sunday. Philadelphia missed a 4th down conversion late in the first half and in their first possession in the second half. Sirianni’s style of coaching intrigues Esiason and he sees the clash between him and faithful Eagles fans.

“That fanbase is very, very restless.” Esiason said, “They’re fed up with the in-game decisions that he is making,”

New York Giants

A Bill Belichick and New York Giants reunion isn’t out of the question, especially with their start 1-2 start to the season. Appearing on Fox’s “The Herd” the Super Bowl 53 MVP said Belichick raved about old Giants teams every chance he could.

“You could tell that he loved the New York Football Giants,” said Julian Edelman, Bellichick’s former player.. “He just loves the Giants. So, I think that would probably be the place he would want to go to.”

Fans are seeing a new side of the hard-nosed, hard-core, yet brilliant football mind of Bill Belichick. From a regular on “The Pat McAfee Show” to joining Instagram, or as he called it “Instaface.” Yet the long-time Patriots head coach could find himself on the sidelines, instead of a television studio on Sundays in 2025.
