Local dockworkers walk off the job at 36 ports along the Atlantic Coast

Early Tuesday a group of dockworkers from Boston formed a picket line at the entrance of Conley Terminal. Many of these men were angered over their wages and fear of automation, especially given they could not reach a contract deal with the US Maritime Alliance.
After these conflicts started to bubble over, the International Longshoremen’s Association began a strike in order to improve the quality of life. Within a couple days, many docks along the East Coast halted their operations in support of the effort.
While this strike does demand attention, it also poses a major dilemma for the economy as it can reignite inflation and cause a shortage of goods. Additionally, the Massport confirmed that there would soon be cargo pile up if no workers were there to distribute shipments when they arrive.
Also, the strike could impact the wallets of millions of Americans. Josh Stillwagon, the chair of economics at Babson College said prices “could increase on items like fruits, chocolate, coffee,
and alcohol among other products”, especially those shipped to America. To add on, it could impact the electronic, auto, and meat industries of Massachusetts.
As of right now this strike is still ongoing, but many companies and people hope that they come to an agreement soon.
