Steward Health Care will be abandoning Norwood Hospital, and closing the four affiliated clinics. This move will force patients at these four satellite facilities in Norwood and Foxboro to seek care elsewhere.
Steward Health Care’s financial ruin was made public on Monday when their Norwood hospital and its affiliate clinics filed for bankruptcy in court after selling six hospitals and closing two.
Their proposed closing date will be in November as this is when the hospital’s licenses will expire.
Norwood Hospital flooded four years ago, but construction for the new facilities stopped last February because of Steward’s bankruptcy.
“Given ongoing bankruptcy proceedings and Steward’s difficult financial position, reopening the facility is not feasible,” Steward said in a statement.
This closure will leave dozens without jobs, the General Manager of the town of Norwood Tony Mazzucco said, “70 people found out they’re going to be out of a job and that hadn’t been communicated well ahead of time.”
The four clinics closing are Norwood Performance Therapy, Guild Imaging Center of Norwood Hospital, Foxboro CT, and Norwood Hospital Cancer Care Center at Foxboro. These facilities offer care for physical therapy, radiology, and cancer treatment.
State health officials say they are looking for options to continue care while hoping for a buyer to come forward for the hospital.
