Kohl’s, is closing one of its locations in Stoughton, MA on Feb. 7 next year. Around 77 workers will be laid off, including positions such as beauty advisors and merchandising, operations and service associates.

There are currently over 20 other Kohl’s stores in Mass. such as Hingham, Mansfield, and Pembroke.

The announcement of the store’s closure comes shortly after a press release about a CEO transition. Ashley Buchanan, who was appointed as the new CEO of Kohl’s, will start Jan. 15 next year when Tom Kinsbury, the current CEO of Kohl’s, steps down.

According to a report of “Third Quarter Fiscal 2024 Financial Results” on its website, Kohl’s has seen a 8.8% decrease in net sales and 9.3% decrease in comparable sales.

“We are not satisfied with our performance in 2024 and are taking aggressive action to reverse the sales declines,” Kingsbury stated in the press release. While Kohl’s benefited from the opening of Babies “R” Us in around 200 of its stores in August, the company still faced declining sales.
