Bus crashes into light poles on Route 1A in East Boston

Just after 5:30 a.m. Monday, a bus crashed into a utility pole on Route 1A, otherwise known as the William F. McClellan Highway, near Addison Street.
The bus took down two transformers and three other light poles, stopping traffic early Monday morning in a bustling part of the city and closing the northbound and southbound lanes. While the northbound lane was reopened at 1 p.m., the southbound lane remains closed.
“The bus veered off into the right lane, took out a pole, and unfortunately hit numerous poles, and the poles pulled down other poles,” Boston Fire Department Chief Mark Raymond said. “So we had wires all over the street and about four transformers all over the highway — both sides of the highway.”
Police added that the traffic around east Boston and Logan International Airport has been affected by the crash.
At the time of the crash, multiple people on the bus were headed to Logan International Airport. Two people were taken to the hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries.
