The Super Bowl matchup is set, and it looks…familiar

It’s not deja vu, you’ve seen this before.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles are set for a Super Bowl rematch after they won their respective conference championship games on Sunday. This marks the Chiefs’ third-straight appearance at the big game in their quest for a three-peat. The Eagles are back for the second time in three years, with their last win coming against the New England Patriots at Super Bowl LII.
Philadelphia manhandled this year’s Cinderella team in the Washington Commanders 55-23, clinching the spot in New Orleans. Washington held their own for a good portion of the game, despite the final score. Still, the Eagles’ star-studded roster proved to be too much for rookie Jaden Daniels and the newly assembled Commanders.
Kansas City’s final hurdle before the big game was a much closer battle, as they squeezed past the Buffalo Bills 32-29. Though the Bills rolled into Arrowhead with monstrous momentum – having practically the entire nation rooting for them – the Chiefs refused to concede their throne. Now, Patrick Mahomes and crew have a chance to win their third-straight Super Bowl; a feat that no NFL team has done before.
Kansas City finds a familiar foe standing in their way, however, as they prepare to face the Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII in Phoenix.
Super Bowl LVII was an offensive fireworks show. Kansas City ultimately escaped with a 38-35 win following a controversial holding call. In a moment Eagles fans don’t like to remember, a flag was thrown after James Bradberry IV grabbed Juju Smith-Scheuster’s jersey in the final two minutes of the game. The penalty gave the Chiefs a first down and the opportunity to bleed the clock out and kick a game-winning field goal.
Philadelphia looks to right their wrongs this time around with Kansas City. Meanwhile, the Chiefs could make history by winning their third-straight Super Bowl. Super Bowl LIX will be broadcast on FOX on Sunday, Feb. 9. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
