Massachusetts Gaming Commission Updates Betting Parameters for Superbowl LIX

By Bryce Heilmann
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has included prop bets in its 2025 catalog of wagers and events for Superbowl LIX sports betting.
With the Superbowl only days away, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission has updated its parameters for sports betting. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has collected almost $233 Million in taxes since sports betting began in the state in 2023. With these expanded betting parameters, it is likely to increase in popularity for Superbowl LIX.
In 2024, upwards of 68 million people participated in sports betting nationwide. There is high demand for this activity and type of engagement in sports, and Massachusetts has responded to that demand. A majority of the new bets are surrounding the coin toss: coin toss result, coin toss winner, the coin toss winner who wins the game, and the coin toss call result.
These added wagers are called prop bets and are not directly tied to the final score of the game. With an expected increase in sports betting due to these new parameters and growing popularity, it is even more important for people to choose legal and safe platforms for sports betting.
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has issued an official seal for residents to identity safe betting platforms. The Commission also has an extensive catalog of all legal events and wagers so residents have even more clarity as to their sports betting options.
