Foreign aid funding temporarily reinstated after ruling against Trump executive order

A judge ruled that the Trump administration must temporarily allow disbursements of foreign aid that were in place before the new administration.
A judge blocked one of Trump’s first executive orders, which halted foreign aid, and ruled that the administration must temporarily allow the disbursement of foreign aid. The ruling on Thursday comes after a lawsuit filed by multiple non-profit organizations that regularly handle international aid projects.
The executive order was not completely blocked, however. U.S. District Judge Amir Ali narrowed his decision to prevent foreign assistance that was in place before the Trump administration from being suspended or canceled.
One of the organizations involved in the lawsuit is the Global Health Council. In a press release, the organization’s president, Elisha Dunn-Georgiou, said the ruling is a victory for foreign aid programs.
“This ruling is a vital first step toward restoring U.S. foreign assistance programs,” said Dunn-Georgiou in a news release. “It clears the path for organizations to resume their life-saving work, showcasing the best of American values: compassion, leadership, and a commitment to global health, stability, and shared prosperity.”
