Bregman comments on Red Sox Third Base situation

By Adam Moskal

The Red Sox signed third baseman Alex Bregman to a three-year $120 million deal last week. The Red Sox are finally spending, but by doing so, they have gotten themselves into a less than positive situation with the face of their team and longtime 3rd baseman Rafael Devers.

In response to questions over a possible position change.

“Third base is my position,” Devers said, replying, “No,” when asked if he would be a DH or play first base.

Bregman brought a different tone to the conversation, as when he was asked about Devers and the situation building before him, he said, “I’m super excited to just be his teammate. He’s a great player. I think everybody in this clubhouse is worried about winning. Whatever it takes to help the team win, that’s all I’m focused on. I’ll play wherever [Alex Cora] tells me to play.”

Bregman, being the solid clubhouse presence, fuels the controversy. The situation could escalate, and Devers could become unhappy with his employer.
