Mayor Wu prepares for D.C. trip to defend Boston immigration policies

As the Trump administration pushes immigration enforcement policies, Mayor Michelle Wu is preparing to defend Boston’s stance on the issue in Washington, D.C.
Wu, along with the mayors of New York, Denver, and Chicago, have been asked to testify about their city’s policies that currently hinder their ability to cooperate with federal immigration policies.
The U.S. House Committee stated that the mayors will be held accountable for the “reckless” and “illegal” policies that shield “criminal aliens” from federal immigration enforcement. Wu called this statement false when visiting a Chelsea resource center for immigrants Wednesday.
“When people who say we’re going to come after sanctuary cities because they’re unsafe, who say they are going come after immigrants because there’s connection to crime, the incidents of taking part in crimes is lower in immigrant communities, so that’s not even a real threat,” Wu told WHDH 7News.
Wu added that she hopes to show D.C. and Congress that Boston’s policies are working efficiently during her visit.
