Bruins React to Trent Frederick Trade After Loss to Predators

Bruins’ Trent Frederick has been traded to the Oilers. Frederick is set to be a free agent this summer, so it is no surprise that the fledgling Bruins moved him to avoid losing him for nothing. Frederick had been a Bruin since 2018 and played alongside Charlie Coyle for most of that time. This, of course, created a close relationship between the two.
“I sent him a text, and I’m sure he was getting hounded and still in shock and things like that,” Coyle said of Frederic after Boston’s 6-3 loss to Nashville. “But, yeah, it stinks. That stuff happens. It’s part of the business, unfortunately.”
Coyle had more to say about the move of his friend, adding, “But it’s hard to see a guy like that leave, and he’s been such a good friend, teammate, player — yeah. I could go on and on about Trent, but wouldn’t do it justice at this point.”
Frederick had a reputation as a well-liked guy in the locker room, and had been a steady presence for the Bruins during his time there. Any sad feelings the players were having after the trade were not quelled by their performance on the ice as they fell to a Predators team near the bottom of the standings with no chance to make the playoffs.
Coyle was not willing to entertain the idea that the trade of Frederick affected the team’s play, emphasizing that it’s just a part of the game and you have to be able to perform through it, leaving no room for excuses.
