Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, met with President Donald Trump last week. The meeting started cordial and ended with President Zelenskyy being told to leave. Reflecting on this, Zelenskyy says the meeting was “regrettable” and that “It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive.”
These comments were made less than a day after the U.S. paused its military aid to Ukraine.
On X Zelenskyy stated, “I would like to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace,” after President Trump and Vice President JD Vance accused him of “gambling with World War Three.”
Zelenskyy gave details for what a possible eace deal would look like specifyling, “the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same,” and “to work with the US to agree a strong final deal.”
Zeleskyy said that “Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it in any time and in any convenient format,” and that he sees the military deal as a step toward getting the security guarantees he seeks.
