President Trump endorsed Mitt Romney’s bid for the Utah US Senate seat. On Monday, via Twitter, Mr. Trump acknowledged Romney’s announcement to run and stated Romney would make a great senator. Also in the tweet, Mr. Trump tweeted that Romney will make a “worthy successor” to current GOP Utah Senator, Orrin Hatch, who will not be seeking re-election.

In a response tweet, Romney thanked the president for the endorsement and added his hope that he will also “earn the support and endorsement of the people of Utah.”

The President’s support for the former Massachusetts governor comes after an antagonistic history between the two political figures. In the 2016 presidential race, Romney expressed criticisms of Trump’s mannerisms and campaign style. Romney also blasted Trump for not publicizing his tax returns during the primaries.

President Trump, in turn, called Romney “one of the dumbest and worst candidates in the history of Republican politics,” during the 2016 election. Trump also insulted Romney for losing to Obama in the 2012 presidential election.
