The snow may be leaving but the storm is far from over. The first snowstorm of winter is exiting the New England region but sleet and freezing rain bring new hazards.
The biggest concern is the freezing rain which turns into ice when it hits the ground. This can increase risk of power outages because it adds weight to the power lines.
Winds are expected to pick up later this afternoon adding to the freezing.
In the evening temperatures will to drop below freezing, turning any sleet and leftover rain from the day into ice.
Since freezing weather will continue throughout tomorrow, it’ll be awhile before the area starts to melt.
