Sanders Wins New Hampshire Primary

By Elena Naze

Senator Bernie Sanders won the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday.

Trailing behind him in second and third were Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Sen. Amy Klobuchar, respectively. Former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren were both not in place to secure delegates from New Hampshire.

Exit polls show that the main issue for democrats was beating President Trump, rather than having a candidate that they agree with. However, voters who were concerned about electability over President Trump’s votes were split between Buttigieg and Klobuchar. Voters who prioritized a candidate who agreed with them supported Sanders.

Similarly, voters who were looking for a candidate who could unite the country’s support was split between Buttigieg and Klobuchar while voters who wanted a candidate who would bring change supported Sanders.

Following the primary, three candidates ended their presidential bid, Andrew Yang, Michael Bennet, and Deval Patrick.
