Election 2024: Nikki Haley Candidate Profile
Nikki Haley announced her 2024 presidential campaign on February 14. She is a member of the Republican party.
Haley was the first woman and person of color to serve as governor of South Carolina between 2011 and 2017. After the governorship, Haley went to serve in the Trump Administration as the United States ambassador to the United Nations from 2017 to 2018.
In her campaign announcement on Twitter, Haley stated: “Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections. That has to change. Joe Biden’s record is abysmal but that shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Washington establishment has failed us over and over and over again.”
Haley concluded her video announcement by noting, “It’s time for a new generation of leadership to rediscover fiscal responsibility, secure our border, and strengthen our country, our pride, and our purpose.”
According to her website, the 2024 candidate’s policies include job creation, political accountability, standing up for the unborn, and cracking down on illegal immigration, among others. Haley’s record of results states: “Nikki was one of the most pro-life governors in America. In her role as South Carolina’s first female governor, she showed that being pro-life isn’t about politics. It’s about protecting the most basic right there is—a baby’s right to life.”
Federal Election Commission receipts show Haley’s major donors to date include Team Stand for America, WinRed, and Mrs. Marlys Badzin and Mr. Elliott Badzin.
Haley is currently averaging 5.2% in recent polls, according to FiveThirtyEight. A Morning Consult poll from September 2-4 finds 6% support for Haley in the Republican presidential primary. The August Emerson National Poll shows 7% plan to support Haley in the Republican primary.
