A note from the editor: As of November 12, Tim Scott has suspended his 2024 Election campaign. Read about it here.
South Carolina Senator Tim Scott formally launched his 2024 presidential campaign on May 22, 2023. He is a member of the Republican party.
Scott has represented South Carolina in the Senate since 2013. He is the only Black Republican in the Senate. Scott serves on multiple committees, including Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Foreign Relations, Finance, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Aging. The North Charleston native has previous experience serving in the United States House of Representatives, the South Carolina House of Representatives, and the Charleston City Council.
According to Scott’s campaign website, he is running to “restore faith in America.” In his biography, he says that he has had “one of the most conservative voting records in congress.” Scott’s main beliefs and policy ideas center around tighter border security, combating issues in the education and criminal justice systems, preserving conservative values, creating more economic opportunities, and strengthening national security.
Senator Scott has allocated more funds toward marketing than his opponents in key early voting states. Trust in the Mission, a PAC supporting Scott, recently announced its commitment to spending 40 million dollars on both digital and broadcast advertising in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.
A recent poll conducted by SSRS from August 25-31 showed Scott at 3%, behind Ramaswamy at 6%.
