14-year-old arrested with loaded gun at South Boston school

Boston Police responded around 2 p.m. Tuesday to a South Boston middle school, upon reports from school staff of a found gun. A 14-year-old boy was found with a gun in his backpack, it was fully loaded with the hammer cocked.
The student was overheard having a verbal altercation with another student, where a third student witness heard him say he was going to shoot him with a gun he had in his backpack. The school staff took the student out of class and recovered the gun from his backpack. The student said he was holding it for a friend, and that it was for protection.
He was arrested on three charges; unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and unlawful possession of a firearm on school grounds. He will be arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court.
