Judge Tanya Cktkan released redacted files containing new evidence against former President Donald Trump in his case for Presidential Immunity upon Prosecutor Jack Smith and his team’s request.
The filing made by Mr. Smith and his team is known as one of his most expansive filings yet, after gaining his knowledge from almost a 2-year long investigation. Mr. Smith presents a 165-page brief, even though it is released as partly redacted it still adds new educational evidence against Trump and how even though Trump lost the race he still attempted not to let go of his title and hold on to his Presidential Power.
Mr. Smith shows in this briefing how Trump’s actions reflect not one of an official well-natured acting president but one of a “desperate losing candidate.” which allows Mr. Smith to emphasize how Mr. Trump is not entitled to the the presidential immunity under the Supreme Courts ruling this summer.
In the briefing, Mr. Smith presented new evidence along with direct quotes from Mr. Trump that not only reflect him to be desperate attempt to gain back his former presidency but also draw outlines between Mr. Trump and the events that occurred on Jan. 6, 2021.
On Jan. 6, 2021, a mob stormed the capitol-almost all wearing Trump-supporting merchandise and carrying flags showing their dedication to Trump. Fox News presented an interview with one of the protesters storming into the capital where the protester conveyed their disappointment in Mr. Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence.
Right after said interview, it was reported a police officer might have been injured and that protesters had broken into the Capitol itself. Following that a tweet from Mr. Trump was posted on Twitter “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done.” and that Mr. Pence had let them all down. Invoking Mr. Smith to say that this post should allow for Mr. Trump’s prosecution.
In the minutes following these events, Mr. Pence’s safety was shown to be in danger. The Secret Service immediately took Mr. Pence to a secure location. However, when Mr. Trump’s aides alerted him of the ongoing situation hoping he would do something to help Mr. Pence’s safety, Mr. Trump responded with “So what.”
More quotes from Mr. Trump came out in the briefing showing how he was desperately clinging onto to his presidential power. An Oval Office assistant overheard Trump telling friends and family “It doesn’t matter if you win or lose an election. You still have to fight like hell”
Mr. Trump also stated to one of his lawyers “The details don’t matter” after his lawyers told him that his false claims that the election was ruined by the widespread fraud would not hold up in a court of law.
The briefing from Mr. Smith also shines a light on the fact that Mr. Trump tried to sway state lawmakers to throw the election his way. On Nov. 20, 2020, Mr. Trump tried to sway two Michigan lawmakers within this meeting it is noted that Mr. Giuliani; Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican National Committee; and Mr. Meadows were in attendance.
The last thing to note in this briefing is that in mid-November of 2020 a “private lunch” occurred between Mr. Pence and Mr. Trump. When Mr. Pence suggested that Mr. Trump finally accept his defeat to Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. and run again in the next presidential election Mr. Trump Rebuttled with the statement “I don’t know” and “2024 is so far-off.”
