French Prime Minister Macron staying in office until end of term

French President Emmanuel Macron has promised to stay in office until the end of his term in 2027. He says that he will name a new prime minister soon. This comes after efforts to end the political deadlock following Prime Minister Michel Barnier’s resignation.
A no-confidence vote on Thursday evening was prompted by budget disputes at the National Assembly, which left France without a functioning government. Macron is said to have come out “fighting” from it, according to AP News.
Macron described the vote as “the far right and the far left [uniting]” in “an anti-Republican front”, according to AP News.
“They chose disorder,” he said.
Macron today started speaking with both left and right-wing politicians in an attempt to get to a more stable government. The next priority is to pass the budget law.
Macron said that the new prime minister “will be charge with forming a government of general interest,” according to AP News. The new government is expected to prepare a budget law for 2025 and allow France to invest in its military, justice and police, and to support struggling farmers, according to Macron.
As of right now, Macron has still not named a new prime minister.
