Nick Markakis is a diamond in the rough. It has been twelve years since the Baltimore Orioles finished above .500, but Nick Markakis gives Orioles fans something to cheer for.
Once a top rated prospect, Markakis is now a five-year veteran. In his time in the big leagues, Markakis has compiled a .298 averaged and knocked in 422 runs. Markakis plays a vital role in the Baltimore organization. A team full of young prospects will count on his veteran leadership to get them back to the post season. “For the most part our young guys have been doing a great job, they’ve been making some great strides.” Said Markakis. “Hopefully they can continue that and contribute up here and get this thing going.”
This year, the Orioles will need more than a few contributions to make the playoffs. The American League East is baseball’s toughest division. The Red Sox and the Yankees will be hard to beat because they have added key free agents like Carl Crawford and Rafael Soriano. “[We have to] compete, that’s the biggest thing we’re going to go out there, take it game by game and day by day.” Said Markakis. “We know what we’re up against and we just have to play baseball.”
