Super Bowl XLVI is Deja Vu All Over Again

The Giants vs Patriots Super Bowl sequel ended the same as the first. The New York Giants are Super Bowl champions. For the second time in four years, the team beat the New England Patriots 21-17 in football’s biggest game.
The Giants made a miraculous catch and Tom Brady fell short. In the fourth quarter, Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham’s 38-yard catch propelled the Giants down the field. This ultimately resulted in running back Ahmad Bradshaw scoring the go ahead touchdown. Tom Brady is known for his fourth quarter heroics. But this time, he was unable to get the Patriots into scoring possession. He walked off the field without a win.
The result was eerily similar to the Giants 17-14 win over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. Giants quarterback Eli Manning completed the now infamous helmet catch to David Tyree. Tyree’s catch allowed the Giants to continue a drive that ended in that game’s winning score.
Manningham’s catch in Super Bowl XLVI was equally impressive. He snatched the ball from the outstretched hands of two defenders and tip-toed his feet along the sidelines to stay in-bounds.
The win makes Manning one of only three active NFL quarterbacks to have won more than one Super Bowl. The other two are Ben Roethlisberger from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Brady. Former Raider Jim Plunkett is the only quarterback in NFL history with two Super Bowls and has yet to be elected to the Hall of Fame.
