Rain and gray skies didn’t damper the mood at the 119th Boston Marathon, and they definitely didn’t take a toll on the finishing times.

Lelisa Desisa regained his title as men’s first-place champion, two years after he won the 2013 marathon.

The Ethiopian runner came in first place with a time of 2:09:17. This beat his time of 2:10:22 he earned in 2013, just hours before the tragic bombings occurred.

“I’m happy for No. 1,” Desisa told the Associated Press. “I am happy to win and for a strong Boston 2013.”

The first American man to cross the finish line was Dathan Ritzenhein of Michigan. He came in seventh place with a time of 2:11:20.

Last year’s men’s winner Meb Keflezighi came finished eighth with a time of 2:12:42.

The women’s race had a tight finish, with Caroline Rotich of Kenya making a comeback in the final minute and beating Mare Dibaba of Ethioa. Rotich’s final time was 2:24:55.

Desiree Linden, a California native living in Michigan, was the first American woman to complete the race. She concluded with a time of 2:25:39.

About 30,000 runners began the 26.2 mile marathon. The course went from Hopkinton to Boylston Street.
