Obama Stresses Need for Gun Reform
President Barack Obama once again calls for more gun reform, in response to the mass shooting that took place in San Bernardino, California that left 14 people dead and 17 wounded.
“It is possible that this was terrorist related, but we don’t know. It’s also possible that this was was workplace related,” said Obama.
President Obama talked to the public about our need for “common sense” gun safety laws and more intense background checks, so mass shootings can become “rare opposed to normal.” Obama did not hide his frustration at lawmakers for their minimal efforts to enact new gun control laws.
“We have a pattern now of mass shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world,” Said Obama
Obama urges lawmakers to come to a consensus on preventing people on the “no-fly list” from getting access to guns, because those barred from flying on commercial flights can still go anywhere in this country and legally purchase a firearm, “and there’s nothing we can do to stop them.”
Obama also mentioned the Planned Parenthood clinic shooting that happened last Friday, in which three people were shot and killed.
Obama has repeatedly spoken about our country’s need for gun reform to decrease the number of mass shootings that happen in America. “I say this every time we get one of these mass shootings, this just doesn’t happen in other countries,” he said on Tuesday.
Many 2016 presidential candidates on both sides of the aisle sent their condolences via social media. Some candidates mentioned changing gun laws and others did not.
